A permit or licence is required to undertake certain activities on land, marine or freshwater areas in Ireland. Licences are required for many activities including, deer hunting, importing plants and animals, interfering with rare and protected plant and animal species in Ireland. The National Parks & Wildlife Service regularly requires the service on contract of scientists, in a wide range of disciplines relating to the conservation and protection of Ireland's flora and fauna and their habitats. The application form is available here, NPWS Panel of Experts Application form

NPWS regularly commission and produce reports and manuals on protected species of plant and animals in Ireland. Many of these are available for download from the Publications and Literature page.
